AIRS 4th Annual Meeting - August 22 - 24, 2012
AIRS 4th Annual Meeting is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday August 22 to Friday Auguust 24, 2012 and will take place at the University of Prince Edward Island. Co-investigators, collaborators, students and partners... Please plan to attend this exciting event that will represent the consolidation of 3 1/2 years of activities and the milestones achieved. The Policy and Planning Committee meeting will take place on Tuesday evening, August 21 from 6:00 to 9:00. There will be a student workshop on Tuesday focusing on Methodologies in Singing Research. August 22nd will entail an overview of all aspects of the project, presented by the AIRS Executive including Director, Theme Leaders, and Sub-theme leaders of each of the themes of Development, Education, and Well-being as well as the other committees (Global Group, Student group, Ethics Committees)! A workshop on methodologies in singing research will be presented on August 21st.
A concert is also planned, and involvement of partnerships with the Confederation Centre for the Arts, East Coast Music Awards, Veterans Affairs Canada, to name only a few is expected.
There are numerous other exciting and worthwhile conference opportunities for you this summer as usual. Please do what you can to make the AIRS meeting a priority and also attend your other meetings as you normally would. You are also encouraged to present your work on AIRS at your regular conferences, and also to meet with AIRS colleagues there should there be several of you in attendance.

AIRS Symposium at the International Symposium on Performance Science (August 25, 2011)
An AIRS Symposium entitled “A major collaborative research initiative on singing: Focus on performance” organized by Frank Russo (serving as moderator and discussant) took place in Toronto, August 25, 2011 at the International Symposium on Performance Science. The conference was co-organized by Aaron Williamon and Darryl Edwards. The following papers were presented.

Recent Student Opportunities with AIRS
AIRS has posted four new student opportunities:
1. Two literature survey/ reviews associated with the AIRS digital library initiative:
- Survey of digital libraries for music and singing. This can include also non-music sites such as consideration of Talkbank, CHILDES, and ComNET as well as databases for motion capture, and audiovisual speech collections.
- Survey of computer technology for analysis and synthesis of singing. This may include comparisons with analysis/synthesis of speech.
2. A unique postdoctoral position in research on singing is available through the AIRS at the home institution of a collaborator who agrees to be a supervisor.
3, Support for students interested in conducting research on singing directed toward achieving milestones associated with one or more of the three main AIRS research themes: Development, Education, and Well-being.
